Terms of service.

Last updated 18 May 2026

These are the terms for using this website and The Starting Line course. By using the site or buying the course, you're agreeing to them. We've kept them readable. If anything's unclear, email us.

Important: The Investing Couple provides educational content only. Nothing on this website, in the course, or in any of our content constitutes financial advice. We are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. The value of investments can go down as well as up and you may get back less than you invested. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.

01Who we are

The Investing Couple is operated by Oliver Hayes, a sole trader based at Unit 167509, PO Box 7169, Poole, BH15 9EL. Contact: access@theinvestingcouple.co.uk.

In these terms, "we" or "us" means Oliver Hayes trading as The Investing Couple, and "you" means anyone using the site or buying our products.

02The website

You're welcome to browse the site, read the free lessons, and share links to it. You can't:

If you want to quote a paragraph in a blog post or share a screenshot in good faith, that's fine - just credit us and link back. Anything bigger, email and ask.

03The Starting Line course

What you get

For a one-off payment of £14.99, you get lifetime access to all ten modules of The Starting Line, plus the cheat sheet PDF. "Lifetime" means as long as the course exists and is available - if we ever discontinue it, we'll give you plenty of notice and a way to keep your materials.

How it works

After you pay through Stripe, we'll send you a unique unlock code by email within a few minutes. You enter the code on the course page and your access activates on that browser. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, just enter the code again.

What it isn't

The course is educational content. It is not personal financial advice. It does not tell you what to buy, when to buy it, or whether any particular investment is right for you. We can't know your circumstances, your tax position, or your goals - only you can, and ideally with a regulated financial advisor if your situation is complex.

04Payment and refunds

Your right to cancel

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you normally have 14 days to cancel a purchase of digital content and get a refund.

However, when you buy the course, you're agreeing to start accessing it immediately. By clicking the purchase button and entering your unlock code, you're confirming you want immediate access and you understand that doing so means you lose your 14-day cancellation right. This is allowed under regulation 37(1) of the Consumer Contracts Regulations.

Our refund policy

That said, we want you to be happy with what you've bought. If you've genuinely engaged with the course and feel it's not what you expected, email us within 14 days of purchase and we'll consider a refund on a case-by-case basis. We're a small business, so we ask you to be reasonable: refunds are for genuine dissatisfaction, not for buyer's remorse after consuming the whole thing.

If something goes wrong

If you pay but never receive your unlock code, or if the course is genuinely broken on our end, we'll fix it or refund you straight away. Email us and we'll sort it.

Chargebacks

If you have a problem, email us first. Raising a chargeback before contacting us - when we'd have happily resolved the issue - costs us money and we may revoke your course access if a chargeback is raised in bad faith.

05Intellectual property

Everything on this site and in the course - the writing, the design, the layout, the cheat sheet, the brand - is owned by Oliver Hayes trading as The Investing Couple. You're buying a personal licence to access and learn from the content, not the content itself.

That means you can:

You can't:

If we spot the code being used on lots of different devices or in different countries, we may revoke access.

06Disclaimers

Not financial advice

We say this a lot because it's the single most important thing on this page. The Investing Couple is a personal finance content brand. We share what we do and explain how things work. We are not authorised by the FCA, we are not financial advisors, and nothing we publish - on this site, in the course, on social media, or in private correspondence - should be treated as financial advice or a recommendation to buy or sell anything.

Investing involves risk. The value of investments can go down as well as up. You may get back less than you invested. Past performance does not predict future results. Tax rules can change and depend on individual circumstances. If you're not sure what to do, speak to a regulated financial advisor.

Accuracy

We try hard to get our content right and update it as rules change (especially UK tax rules, which move frequently). But we can't guarantee every figure or fact is current at the exact moment you read it. Always double-check time-sensitive figures like ISA allowances, tax rates, and platform fees against the official source.

External links

We sometimes link to external sites for further reading or to providers we use ourselves. We're not responsible for the content of external sites and a link doesn't mean we endorse everything on them.

07Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't legally be limited under UK law.

Beyond that, and to the maximum extent allowed by law:

08Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes that affect your rights as a customer, we'll email anyone who has bought the course. For everyone else, the "last updated" date at the top of this page will change. Continuing to use the site after a change means you're accepting the updated terms.

09Suspending or ending access

We can suspend or end your access to the course if you breach these terms - for example, by sharing your unlock code, trying to scrape the site, or raising a fraudulent chargeback. If we do this for good reason, you won't be entitled to a refund.

10Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts. If you're a consumer based elsewhere in the UK (Scotland or Northern Ireland), you keep the protections of your local law.

11Complaints

If you're unhappy with something, email us first at access@theinvestingcouple.co.uk. We'll always try to fix it. If we can't resolve it between us, UK consumers can use the government's online dispute resolution platform at gov.uk/consumer-protection-rights.

Questions?

Email access@theinvestingcouple.co.uk. We'd rather you ask than guess.
